SINHAGAD (Kondana) : Witness to stunning sacrifice.
The oldest mention of this fort as 'Kundhiana' is in AD 1350 in Shahnama-e-Hind by Islami. It was captured by Muhamad Tughalak in AD 1328.
At the South West of Pune, the highest point of Bhuleshwar range houses the Sinhgad fort. It is known for the lion-like Tanaji Malusare's sacrifice due to which Kondana was techristenend as Sinhagad (lion's fort). After Adilshah's reign, the fort changed hands from the Moghuls to Marathas and vice versa several times till British occupation. A popular picnic spot, Sinhgad is frequented by botanist , zoologist , fort lovers and serves as a training ground to trekkers.
