It was built by Shilahar Bhoj 2nd in 1192. On the border of Kolhapur and Sindhudurg district stands Rangna fort built by Shilahara King Bhoj. Later it came under Adilshah regime before being captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1659. The fort is 2600 feet in height and has a temple of goddess Rangnai. From atop the fort the entire stretch of land up to the Konkan coast and Arabian Sea can be viewed.

The oldest mention of this fort as 'Kundhiana' is in AD 1350 in Shahnama-e-Hind by Islami. It was captured by Muhamad Tughalak in AD 1328.⁣

         At the South West of Pune, the highest point of Bhuleshwar range houses the Sinhgad fort. It is known for the lion-like Tanaji Malusare's sacrifice due to which Kondana was techristenend as Sinhagad (lion's fort). After Adilshah's reign, the fort changed hands from the Moghuls to Marathas and vice versa several times till British occupation. A popular picnic spot, Sinhgad is frequented by botanist , zoologist , fort lovers and serves as a training ground to trekkers.

It was constructed by Shivaji Maharaj between 1664 & 1668.

       After conducting a survey of the konkan coast, Shivaji Maharaj chose Kurte Island for the headquarters of Maratha navy as a strong naval force was required to protect coastal Maharashtra from foreign invasions. Thus in 1664 this magnificent sentinel of Konkan was erected. Sindhudurg is the privileged fort to have a temple dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj and has the unique distinction of having a palm and foot print of the Maratha Emperor.
